Cheetah's Cheetah Page

Running Cheetah

Before you embark on your Internet trip to learn about this lovely creature whose name I share, here are a few words I’d like to share with you.

"As I truly care what is happening to our world and it’s creatures, I do ask you to think twice, then think again and then don’t, before you pollute the water, poison the soil, randonly kill a creature or try to keep a wild creature as a pet."

"If you want the world to be kind to you, do something kind to it."
Cheetah

The Cheetah

Species: Acinonyx jubatus

The most primitive of all cats, evolving some 18 million years ago, the cheetah is a tall, slim, long-legged cat weighing from 65 to 110 pounds. It is built along the lines of the greyhound standing 48 to 60 inches tall. Its claws are only semi-retractable, and it has a distinctly dog-like muzzle. Its coat is yellowish-brown with dark brown spots and a long, 20 to 30 inch white-tipped tail.

The cheetah may be found in open grassland and nearby forests in many parts of Africa, the Middle East, and south-central Asia, where it hunts by day, from the ground, and seeks antelope and other grazing animals.

Like many of the other big cats it’s numbers are quickly decreasing.

The cheetah is unique in several ways, and is the only member of genus Acinonyx. It has been captured and and trained to the hunt and is the fastest four-footed animal on Earth, often achieving speeds in excess of 80 mph for short distances.

The cheetah is truly a beautiful creature.

I’m not going to try to write a great deal about the cheetah as so many other already have. I’ve listed some great links for you to follow, to learn more about, and what is happening to this great cat. There are also some wonderful pictures of this regal beauty at some of these links.
